Policies and Procedures

** Student bus routes and car pool procedures are posted on Wilburn’s main webpage.

In Second Grade, students work hard, show their best efforts, and stay focused.
Student Incentive System:
  • DOJO Points: Students can earn "DOJO points" for showing their P.A.W.S. throughout each day at school.  Weekly Fun Friday privileges and monthly School Store incentives are received using student DOJO points.
Expectation Policy
Mrs. Strauber’s Discipline Policy directly aligns with the school’s disciplinary procedures.  Mrs. Strauber’s Brilliant Bunch is expected to follow and enforce P.A.W.S on a daily basis.  (See attached “P.A.W.S. rubric”). This ensures a safe and pleasant environment with less distraction from learning and growing!

-Our class is practicing and encouraging the use of “I-statements” with each other to verbalize feelings and needs.  (“I don’t like when you _____________. Please stop now.")
-We often give "Shout-outs" to each other during the final minutes before dismissal to positively recognize a classmate. ("I would like to give a shout-out to ______today for _______.  Way to go!")

If a student disregards a P.A.W.S. expectation, the following actions are taken in school:
  • 1st Warning: Verbal Warning from Mrs. Strauber
A teacher-student discussion takes place, including:
-“What were you doing?”         -“What should you be doing?”         -“Please show me now.”
  • 2nd and 3rd Warnings: Buddy Bounce
The student is sent to a neighboring teacher’s classroom to complete a “Think Sheet."  This is a reflection sheet in which the student fills in answers as to what they were doing, what they should be doing, and a plan to correct the behavior positively. When the student returns to class, he/she shows the teacher and should follow-through with the positive plan he/she wrote down. I require these to please be signed by the parent/guardian and returned to the teacher the following day. Thank you in advance for your reinforcement at home.
  • 4th Warning: Office Referral
The student will meet with the principal or assistant principal to further discuss behavior and appropriate consequences.
